Winter Storm Warning
We are currently under a winter storm warning. Approximately 3 to 5 inches of snow is expected. Road conditions could become dangerous. County offices will close at 4:00 p.m. today, closed on Wednesday and potentially reopen on January 23, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.
At this time, traditional shelters will not be opened. There will be an overnight Warming Center opened from 7:00pm-7:00am at Facts of Life Church, 506 Lee St., Whiteville in the gymnasium behind the church facing Madison St. This warming center will remain open each night the temps are below 40°F. The National Weather Service has reported, “Very hazardous travel can be expected starting late this evening and continuing into Wednesday morning, and potentially again over Wednesday night into Thursday morning as any melted water refreezes.”
Any precipitation that melts during the daytime will re-freeze at night leading to hazardous roads and walkways.
Residents are advised to remain cautious while navigating the roads this evening and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety. Plan ahead and consider delaying travel if possible.
